Icarus' Flight

Icarus' Flight

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Our love was like

Icarus’ flight

Short but sweet

We flew too high

The sun melting

The wax

That was all that held us

Together

We were so caught up

On the height

Of our love

That we didn’t see

That it could never

Last

We didn’t notice

As it all fell apart

Didn’t notice

Til our sun warmed limbs

Hit the surface of the

Foaming sea

Til the waves

Ran down our throats

An extended metaphor

Of reality

Our love was like

Icarus’ flight

Like him

We never made it

To the other side

I really like the imagery in this, the running metaphor is very evocative. It flows very nicely as well, the rhythm is easy to settle into. Well done.
