(Without) Excellence

(Without) Excellence

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Excellence

Is the word I hold

In my hand

They tattooed it there

When I belonged to them

(Now I’m on

The run

On the TV screen

Above the words

MISSING

WANTED FOR THEFT)

Back then

They would put me on display

Invite their friends round

To gaze at my

Perfect body

At my

Excellence.

(Now I’m on

The run

On the front page

My brilliance

Barely done justice -

I’d sue

If I weren’t running for my life)

Excellence

Is the word I hold

In my hand

They tattooed it there

So I wouldn’t forget

My purpose in life

So I wouldn’t forget

The reason

They kept me locked up safely.

The reason they kept me at all.

Excellence

Is the word I hold

In my hand

Tattooed

So I couldn’t escape my fate.

But today I visited

A tattoo parlour

To make an addition

To my existence

Now my left hand reads

‘Without’

So many expectations seem to be ingrained in us. you can't possibly live up to them all. This is a great way to free yourself from those expectations. Great Write.

Ah, This is an awesome write!
I'm not sure where you got the idea for it but it's amazing.
We so often break the expectations others make for us.
I'm inspired.
Excellent write!
