Stillborn Happy Birthday

Stillborn Happy Birthday

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

I hold you

My baby girl

In my arms

You’re so beautiful I could cry

Your eyes are closed

Veined eyelids barred to the world

I stroke them with my pinkie

You’re so tiny I can’t believe you’re real

Your little fingers are curled into fists

I can tell you’re going to be a fighter

Your tiny shell lips are parted

And I run my finger over them

I can’t stop touching your face

You’re so beautiful

And I can’t believe you’re real

Happy birthday

Sweetest daughter

Happy birthday to you

You’re so beautiful I could cry

I rock you in my arms

And I don’t even realise I’m screaming

Till the nurses come to take you away

They tear your fragile body

From my arms

As they hold me down

Try to

Calm me down

But they can’t

I held you in my arms

My baby girl

You were so beautiful I cried

And your little fingers

Were curled into fists

Even though for you

The fight was over

Now the nurses are leaving

They’ve given me a drug

To make me sleep

But for now I’m left

My screams dying to whimpers

And as I lay alone

My solitude screams of failure

I held you

My baby girl

My tiny daughter

In my arms

And you were so beautiful

I couldn’t believe you were real

That's so sad. You've really captured the emotion perfectly-I love it.
