What Little Sanity Remained

What Little Sanity Remained

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

I’m tearing the skin

From my face

And I think you should know

That it’s all for you

You see

There’s a head in my room

That’s waiting to be painted

And

Don’t take this the wrong way

But

Though I may come back

I probably won’t

I’m listening to an album

Called

Self-Destructive Pattern

And wondering

If this is indicative

Conclusive

Of there being

Something…

                                Wrong.

I’m tearing the skin

From my hands

And I think you should know

It’s just because it makes me feel

Powerful

Makes me feel

Real

Makes me feel anything at all.

You see

There’s a bag of hair in my room

Waiting to be…

Well whatever it is you do with hair

Made into a wig?

I’m listening to an album

Called

Palmless Prayer / Mass Murder Refrain

And wondering

About what this means

For us.

I’m tearing the skin

From my eyelids

And I think you should know

It’s because I just looked up

And saw her in your arms

And I think

I’m finally losing it

What little sanity remained.

I agree with all of the previous reviews - so much so that I can't think of anything more to add other than: Well done! The imagery is outstanding. Loved this!

oh you describe the agony of the betrayed so well.. and you have small moments inside the visceral images that give a sort of dark laugh:

You see

There's a bag of hair in my room

Waiting to be

Well whatever it is you do with hair

Made into a wig?

that is funny! but also shows that while the narrator has lost a lot, she hasn't lost her sense of self, and can even laugh, bitterly, but laugh - and that shows that she'll come out of it
