Words Never Come

Words Never Come

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

I’d like to write you a letter

And tell you how sorry I am.

But the words

Just never come.

Instead

I stand outside

Alone in the sun

That seems intent

On cheering

Me up.

But sunburn’s not something

I appreciate.

And I’m only out here anyway

Because inside

The air isn’t breathable

And the windows

Are all painted shut.

I remembered today

How you held my hand

The day everything went wrong.

And I realised

I never said thank you for that.

And now I’m standing outside

Alone in the rain

That seems intent

On washing away

My tears.

But they just keep on falling.

And I’m only out here anyway

Because inside

I can’t hide

From the damage I did

To the both of us.

I’d like to tell you how grateful

I am

For everything you gave me.

And how much I miss you.

But the words never come.

Instead I'm standing outside

Your house

Hoping you'll understand.
