Ugly Eyes

Ugly Eyes

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

The sky goes dark

And the rain

Beats us

To within an inch of our

Pathetic lives.

You’ve got

Ugly eyes.

And they stare out at me

From a face

Marred by materialism.

You watch me

Like I’m an explosion about to happen.

Like I’m life

Laid out in front of you.

That’s just the way it is.

You say.

And I know not to

Expect an apology.

I love this, Marred by materialism, I just love they way it sounds so great and horrible at the same time!

I like this... It reminds me of 'The great Gatsby'
The narrator Nick coming to realise the true, hidden materialism of the drifters he encounters on Long Island.
Well written :)
