A Peaceful Hanging

A Peaceful Hanging

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

You hang from the ceiling
And it’s strange
To see you look so calm.
Your eyes are half shut
Mouth hanging slightly open
The dull purple bruise
At your neck
The only patch of colour
Against the greyish hue
Of your skin.
I reach out to touch your hand
Where it hangs
At your side.
But it is cold and unfamiliar
And no longer holds my own.

You hang from the ceiling
And it’s the most peaceful
I’ve ever seen you.
I only wish I hung beside you

Close enough for our hands
To meet.
