The Sighing Of A World Left To Contemplate It's Own Regret

The Sighing Of A World Left To Contemplate It's Own Regret

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

We laugh as we

Tear it up

Burn it up

Mess it up

Trash the very thing

That gave us life

We laugh

Our eyes wide and crazed

Lashing out

At anything that moves

You’re standing in your doorway

Dancing to the sound of silence.

And you’re crying

So hard it hurts

Laughing

Till you choke.

Wishing you had something

-          Anything      -

Besides the biting ache

Of loneliness.

But

You were the one

With the bomb

And

You don’t deserve our pity.

Death takes her prize

Scouring the earth

With crumbling fingers

Until nought remains

Save the sighing of a world

Left to contemplate

It’s own regret
