Animal

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

My breath is heavy in my ears

Loud and angry

Like my heart

And as I lift my head to look at you

I see the terror in your

Dark eyes

You’re scared

Of me and what I’m

Capable of

What I’m prone to do.

You take a step backwards

Adams apple

Bobbing nervously at your throat

One hand comes up before you

Pointless protection

Your brows knit

Eyes squinting.

Pleading.

Then your back’s against the wall

And you’re shaking.

Hands shaking.

Head shaking

In denial.

Sweat is running into your eyes

And you lick your lips

Throat dry.

‘Please.’

You’re begging

In earnest now

And I crack a grin.

Not a chance.

i love that this is from the dogs(? i imagine it as a dog anyway) P.O.V and i love the line, And I crack a grin, because to a human it wouldn't look like a grin it would be terrifying!
