Vitiate

Vitiate

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Daughter mine

You were young

And your curls hugged your face

And your eyes

Huge and brown

Watched me warmly

I swore

To help you grow

And make you

Something special

To help you through the world

And keep you safe

Daughter mine

I held you in my arms

And believed

I could be what you needed

A better person

A good father

I really believed...

Daughter mine

I watch your face

Between the bars

And I finally

Acknowledge the blinding truth

Of my failure

This is very sad. Your poem tells a story with so much detail in so short a piece I almost feel like the depressed father. Great job, although you may not want to hear that. This poem wouldn't even be written if someone somewhere wasn't feeling this much guilt and sorrow.
