You Smile

You Smile

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

You smile

Make her feel loved

Wanted

But you secretly

Condemn her

Is this who you are?

Is this your best side?

Because the camera’s on wheels

And we can always

Get a better shot

You smile

At the world in general

From behind

Your cosmetic mask

But when we look closely

We can see the cracks

In your facade

You paint my face

Different shades of grey

So I’ll fit in

But my complexion’s all wrong

                You say

I’m too pale

And not pale enough

I smile

And you grimace

Because it’s all wrong

And my lips and skin

Don’t match
