Count The Lives She Has Consumed

Count The Lives She Has Consumed

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

She leaves out sugar

To catch flies

Tempts them

Through the window

She catches flies

To feed to spiders

To tempt them

From dark corners

She feeds the spiders

To her birds

Teaches them

To love her touch

And the birds

She gives to cats

Lures them

To her lair

And with the cats

She feeds her dogs

Who follow

At her heel

And when the dogs

Grow fat and full

She roasts them on a spit

And eats them whole

So do you see

How she craves

The life

She steals from others

She grins

A bloodied smile

And counts the lives

She has consumed

Imagining

They make her

Life

A richer existence
