Reflections

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

You stare

With unforgiving eyes

That trace every line

And curve

Of every inch of my face.

You are unapologetic,

Your lips firmly shut.

No intention to speak

Clouds your scrutiny.

You have nothing to say to me.

I disappoint you.

I’m not what you thought,

What you hoped.

I’m not her.

Your lips curl pityingly

As if to say:

Better luck next time.

And we turn away

From the mirror

Between us.
