Can You See The Sparks?

Can You See The Sparks?

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Can you see the sparks

That wiggle before

Your tired eyes?

Like glittering tadpoles

They fill my vision

Fill the space between

Me and the sky

Can you see the sparks?

They erupt from your lips

As you scream

Profanities

Your words aimed

At you

And your conscience

Your least favourite people.

Can you see the sparks?

They multiply between us

Enough to start a fire

But we smother them

With dull words

And platonic looks

Kings of fire safety

Can you see the sparks

That erupt from my lips?

As I tell you I hate you

They wriggle

Fuelled by the heat

And as I kiss you

They sprout into flames

But we smother them

With an abrupt parting

Of mutual indifference

Can you see the sparks

That wiggle like

Glittering tadpoles

Between our faces

I wonder if they’re

Particles in our eyes

And then the world explodes.
