Catching Dragonflies

Catching Dragonflies

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

I stand on the edge

Toes clinging to rock

I lean forwards

Slowly

Carefully

I reach out my hand

Lift the bright yellow net

You hover

Zipping in and out of sight

Electric blue

Electric quick

I lean forwards

I sway dangerously

Over the water

But you’re within reach

Now and

You alight

I lean back

To safety

Hold the net in front

Of my eyes

You’re beautiful

Blue and glittering

Your wings like

Impossibly thin glass

Your eyes huge

They watch me calmly

And then I breathe

And you’re gone

Zipping

Too quick

Beyond reach

I stand on the edge

Toes clinging to rock

I lean forwards

Catching dragonflies
