Burnt (In Our Memories)

Burnt (In Our Memories)

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

This day will forever be

In my memory

Burnt there

(Like our skin is burnt)

The warmth

And bright light

The smell of coconut sunscreen

And the soft rattle

Of the long grass

Bowing beneath the breeze

My eyes ache

From the bright reflections

And my t-shirt

Is stuck to my back

We lay in the grass

Watch the sky

The clouds

Or we lay on our

Stomachs

Stare into the pond

Watch the tadpoles

And dragonflies

Spy a newt

As it slides into

The cool clear

Water

Slipping beneath

Reflections of the sky

Our eyes follow

The butterflies

And the birds

And the dandelion seeds

That fly

Beyond the reach of our

Grasping hands

This day will forever be

Burnt

In our cloudy memories

A ray of sunshine
