Serene Sedation

Serene Sedation

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

How serene you appear

Laying there

Your eyes closed

Yet how artificial

With tubes in

Every orifice

Everything given to you

Artificially

Food, liquid, life

You lay there

Peacefully

As your organs fail you

And their praying

Voices

Fill the air

With soft buzzing

Like that emitted

By the humming

Machines

How calm you appear

As around you

Your world collapses

Your family watching

With helpless exhaustion

How serene you appear

Under the influence

Of such strong sedatives
