In My Dreams

In My Dreams

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

In my dreams

People die

And I’m powerless

I scream and cry

Beat my fists

Vomit

But they’re gone.

In my dreams

It feels so real

So vivid

(She’s dead

And we have to get on

With our lives

But you’re as broken

As I am

More so even)

In my dreams

People die

And I’m trapped

Believing it reality

I feel suffocated

My dreams revolve

Around claustrophobia

I wake up terrified

But I can’t speak

Can’t tell you

(In my dream you were dead)

So I stay silent

(‘I’ve just got a headache’)

I remember when we used

To talk about dreams

Like they were a gift.

Magical.

Now I dread them.

I long to sleep

But it doesn’t come easy

And when it does

I wish it hadn’t.
