Heavy

Heavy

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Your head weighs heavy

On my shoulder

The weight of knowledge

Pressing on my arm

Our hands weigh heavy

On our wrists

Our legs heavy on our

Ankles

Our hearts heavy

In our chests

You’re a dead weight

And you crush me with

Your helpless words

(‘This is all there is...’)

You look upwards

Searching for a path

For prayers

But the sky is too heavy

For our tired lids

And we close our eyes

As we crumple

Beneath the weight of

The world

And all its troubles

My head weighs heavy

In my hands

My words crushing

My aching tongue

As they roll bitterly

Into existence

(‘This isn’t happening...’)
