Compulsion For Expression

Compulsion For Expression

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Knowledge and happiness

Never came hand in hand

We were ignorant children

And depressed philosophers

With our hands bound

By (human nature) our

Compulsion for expression

Well I’m high on history

I never got told

(How the east made the west)

And I’m seeing the world

In a whole new light

Finally I feel human

Unafraid of my fears

I signed up to waste my days

But you’ve got me

Getting to know myself

Philosophising on the future

Reminiscing on the past

You’ve got me

Hands tied, face down

In love with theories

Of your own invention

You said you liked my story

(Your goose bumps said still more)

And I replied with a tired grin

‘I think this is my favourite part’

I walked away without

Looking back.

But I knew you would follow.

(Your compulsion for expression)
