Like A Robin.

Like A Robin.

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

You were like

A robin

All fierce pride

And aching songs

You perched

Beside me

Red breast aflame

And you told me

The future

You were like a robin

Stern eye

And delighted laugh

Slight and quick,

You had me

Smiling my secrets,

While I watched

You with a blind eye.

Watched you

Tear them apart

You were

Like a robin

All sickly sweet

And charming

With your

Saccharine song

And a flutter

Of soft red feathers

You were like

A robin.

But your red

Was too pink

And I knew

You’d never

Be what I wanted

(A sign of winter)
