Wild Dogs

Wild Dogs

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

We paint our faces

Like the wild dogs

Teeth bared

Beneath blackish lips,

We grin

Because we know

Where to find you,

And howl

Because that’s

What we do.

You’ve got scared eyes

Dark and anxious

And we’re circling

Like a dance.

Back to the trees

You’re watching us

Waiting for the attack,

And when you blink

We grasp your hands

Kiss your palms

And snap your fingers.

We’re painted

Like the wild dogs

And in the dark

We watch you sleep

Kiss your lashes,

Break your heart.
