I like my lover

I like my lover

A Poem by thespaceinmybed

so I took what was left of him
kept it in my pocket
safe from the rain

they say you were an astronaut
a miracle maker
a son of the unknown
a mender of space

You fondled oceans with your smile
gathered birds under your fingertips
fed them the secrets of your past

You became larger than anything I could hold
a thousand dreams stitched together
slipped into the body of a man

You are a hurricane of wonder
I watch you from afar
knowing
you could drill me into the ground
or lift me above the trees

for now I gather the things about you
you have let fall from your skin
I kiss them as I sleep

If you ever find yourself on your way
towards me
I will let you into the space between my ribs
and see where I placed
your name

An expression of love that seems to transcend crude bodily limits. Very well done! The metaphors are particularly striking. What a world this would be if more people felt this way.

I also raised an eyebrow (for the briefest moment) at "you could drill me into the ground." :-b
