When I Close My Eyes

When I Close My Eyes

A Poem by The Last Philospher

A running fridge and an ongoing TV

echoing through the walls creating a scattered mess that insists on not letting me be.

I hear the noise of the things I have no control of,

Things I cannot make sense of.

Why run a colossal fridge that is practically empty?

Why play the TV as loud as it can be?

Are you deaf?

You’re making me deaf.

The talking, the words, I try to ignore,

But then there’s the stench from the neighbors next-door.

I close my eyes and cover my face,

Wishing I could go back to the better days.

Inside my head I can find myself some peace,

Allowing the head ache to slowly decrease.

Between my head and reality I place a border,

To separate the outside madness to from my thoughts, where everything is in order.

But because of the work that I’ve yet to do,

I must open my eyes and continue to push through.

To get rid of the hatred, the greed, that consumes this world of lies,

In order to survive, I must remember to occasionally, for a moment, just close my eyes.

Very, very deep poem. Sometimes the only thing we can do is close our eyes and shut everything out.
