The Poet Forgot the Names (Villanelle)A Poem by ConstanceHis senses enveloped, he senselessly singsThe poet forgot the names for most things And sought instead the meaning of it all His senses enveloped, he senselessly sings
Seeking an end to foul memories' stings When in beauty, he heard something call The poet forgot the names for most things
Having lost all titles, without effort he brings Truer description to feelings that silently fall His senses enveloped, he senselessly sings
Etching out phrases more vivid than drawings Sitting prone on the copice of a high seawall The poet forgot the names for most things
Behind the names, were well hidden meanings Forgotten and now he's remembered them all His senses enveloped, he senselessly sings
Man creates names, to these titles he clings Yet there's no truth, unless God we recall The poet forgot the names for most things His senses enveloped, he senselessly sings
