The Roadside

The roads driven, so many passed.
like skipping stones into the past.
Two roads can diverge from one,
a bullet shot from a broken gun.

The seasons change, come and pass.
The mountains raise, gain some mass.
I've seen people, come and go,
take their paddles and begin to row.

The concrete current, unbroken still
carrying those, denied their will.
Step aside and touch the dewy grass,
the seasons change, come and pass.

The only line I don't understand is "A bullet shot from a broken gun," I may just be thinking too literally, but everything else is fantastic. :)

I guess I can see how the shell separates from the bullet, but not if the gun is broken...

If the barrel had been compressed, the bullet might possibly split. Although I would have originally went with shotgun since the shells separate upon firing I opted for the two syllables of "broken", although if I like it enough I'll alter it in the future.
