There by the Doorway

it's about my cat

It was just my cat,
such a beautiful cat
it sat and licked
its white and frosty fur
sitting there
by the doorway
the lapping sound
like smacking lips
it licked itself
by the doorway.

At my doorway
it sat and paraded
its freshened,
whitened winter coat.
Then sat and settled
for me to gloat.
The cat was happy
in this abode
for it was warm and
plenty milk had flowed.

The cat decided
to sleep alone
there by the doorway
such a sweet and
pleasant thing to see,
your cat asleep
there by the doorway.

Yet I had gone to
drift asleep when
pale white arms
had come to steal
a life from me in
the depths of my sleep
so that I awoke to see
an empty, cold and
miserable doorway.

The ending left me sad. That is what happens in life though, you depend on something being there and then it is gone. It speaks the truth of life. Well done.
