A Story by brianna vega

she held her baby close sheltering him from cold
the wind was blowing the streets dark
he had finally stoped crying
and she had started
alone alone
cold
trying to give what heat she had to the love in her arms
alone alone
no place to go as the sun went down
empty streets
the only people around were more like ghost
speaking to invisible companions
and searching for that escape
she held her baby in her arms hoping he would stay quiet a little longer till she found them somewhere safe to sleep
walking into the city
with the lights and young drunk kids
looking for love in all the wrong bars
she held her baby close right next to her heart
 cold cold alone
on a cold bus bench she rested her feet
holding her baby close
an old woman walked out of her store on her way home from work
she sat next to her
quiet at first unnoticing to her relief
when the baby began to cry in hunger she felt sad ashamed embarrased that she didnt have anything for her love to eat
the woman looked at her
took her in with her sad wise eyes
she took her home that night.
