Things I Got Away With

I said, it's amazing what a pretty face and smile will do. He said, I bet you've gotten away with all manner of things.

I got away with

the mouse from the trap

a cheek against a cold

windowpane

watching the rain

I got away with

putting salt 

in the sugar jars

with calling out to 

and naming all the stars

I got away with 

a heart or two 

to keep 

in the upstairs cupboard 

in case someone comes 

looking because 

they have lost theirs

and I got away

with you
