Once and Then

Once and Then

A Poem by ctwood
"

Love and heartbreak, both leave there marks.

"

Once and then

I loved you once,

or at least I thought I did.

I loved how I was a cheerleader,

and you were the basketball team captain.

I loved walking with you

side by side beneath the stars.

I loved the childish hot and cold

games we played.

I loved you like a high school girl

loves a high school boy

You said good-bye

then I hated you for a while.

I hated how stupid you were

to think that our differences were bad things.

I hated  how you let other people tell you

what I was like and who you were.

I hated that you let what we had wither

before it had a chance to bloom.

I hate how you broke my heart

and made me grow up.

I loved you once

then I hated you for a while,

or at least I thought I did.

The above poem is a rewrite of the one below. I thought I would put the two together to see what people thought about the changes I made.

Once and then

I loved you once,

or at least I thought I did.

I loved how you made me party,

and I made you pass.

I loved the man

I saw you becoming.

I loved walking with you

side by side beneath the stars.

You said good-bye

then I hated you for a while.

I hated how stupid you were

to think that our differences were bad things.

I hated  how you let other people tell you

what I was like and who you were.

I hated that you let what we had wither

before it had a chance to bloom.

I loved you once

then I hated you for a while,

or at least I thought I did.
