The Windmill

Just a few lines of thought

Against the background of the rising Sun

All starts to move, morning life has begun

Silhouetted against the colored Sky

Standing majestic, standing high

 

A Windmill, such a gracious sight

Standing against the horizons bright daylight

Its Blades a master of invention

To turn with the wind is their intention

 

And grind the corn, to make bread

To ensure all around are amply fed

The villagers in their humble abodes asleep

Oblivious as the rivers waters creep

 

Turn the wheel slowly with a slight waterfall noise

And moves the cogs inside with such poise

Windy Miller works hard inside the mill

Of dust and powder, he gets his fill

 

Sometimes he looks like a walking Snowman

As the wheel turns inside just like a fan

Blows up the dust and he gets covered

But to him its part of the job, he’s not bothered

 

Set at the waters edge in amongst some trees

Which shelter the mill from the winds strong breeze

So in summer, spring, winter or fall

The wheel keeps turning making bread for all

 

When his flour is at the ready

It’s down the lane with it nice and steady

To his friend Mr Jones the baker

Whose shop is next to Mr Smith the undertaker

 

In his battered old van, it’s seen better days

But miraculously still wends its merry ways

To do the deliveries down into the town

With a smile, never with a frown

 

A jovial chap is Windy Miller

In his time a bit of a lady-killer

Was regard as the catch of the day

Until his Martha came his way

 

Totally smitten once they had met

He soon realised she was the best he would get

Married soon after now live in bliss

Now after fifty years they still cuddle and kiss

 

Together they make the old mill work well

How long it will last only time will tell

It is a bit battered and needs some repair here and there

However, Windy and Martha have each other, so they don’t care

 

As long as it still works from dawn to dusk

To make the flour for their grand-daughters babies Rusk

Yes, that is how life evolves for all of us

And time is all we have so don’t make a fuss
