A way towards home (chapter five)

Saturday seven o'clock in the morning. Richard was eating breakfast with his mom and sister it is a very rare sight to see him eating with his family and he has a purpose for doing this. His mom and sister was talking about something but Richard was not paying attention to the topic but he spoke after they stop their conversation and it was the chance he was waiting for.

"Mom my girlfriend is coming over before we go on our date today and i might be home late tonight."

There was a long paused after Richard told them about his plans for today and his sister was in shocked when he told  them in a very straight manner but after a while his mom talked.

"You have a girlfriend? but who and where did you met? How long have you been into a relationship?

His mom knows that Richard is never letting anyone know about his private life even she has no idea how Richard spends his days and now his son who have stayed quiet for a long time is now letting her know that he has a girlfriend. 

"My girlfriend is the daughter of the store owner who passed away and now she manages the store"

"But i thought his daughter is living far away. since how long has she been your girlfriend?''

"It's been more than two months now. I met her when she was looking for her father."

Richards mom couldn't find the words to say but she is not against her son having a girlfriend but rather she is happy because his son never interacted with people and she thinks that him having a relationship with a girl is a huge step in changing him.

"Bring her over i want to meet her. Have you told your dad about this?''

Richards father works overseas as a quality control officer in a car company and he is the only family member that Richard often talks to.

"I haven't told him yet but i will when he call"

He stood up and told them nothing more. He went straight to his room after having a bath, he chose a casual wear and it is a white polo with a black shirt underneath and a pair of jet black jeans. His mom asked him if he's going to use his motorcycle but he said no and after a few finishing touches on his caterpillar shoes he went out.

Mae was excited about their date so she woke up early and prepared her favorite dress, Its a black blazer where she would fold the arms and and wear a white body fit shirt that shows her figure she will then pair it with a reasonably short skirt and black boots with a not very high heels, her hair was tied up in a pony tail fashion. Mae doesn't wear make up but she does put on a fleshy pink lipstick only on special occasions. There was a knock on the door and she checked who it was, Richard was standing outside  and when he saw Mae he was all in awe and couldn't help but stare at her. Mae blushed a little when Richard gazed on her and she asked him .

"Well... how do i look?'' 

Richard was astonished by her and all he could say was.

"You look good your outfit really suits you."

"Really!? thanks.."

"I told mom that i will introduce you to her before we go on our date so we should go to my house first"

"Your going to introduce me to your parents?! I'm so happy that finally we are going to be an official couple.."

Mae held his arms and they walked down the road.

On the other side of town Noel was eating some dumplings at the park when a girl approached him. Her name was Rena and it's no secret that she has her eyes on Richard for quite some time and the rumor Richard having a girlfriend is not a pleasant thing to hear so she wants to confirm it by asking the only person who knows Richard best and that is Noel.

"Why hello there Rena..! Would you want to accompany this lonely bachelor and eat some dumplings with him?"

"i'm not here to eat Noel i want to ask you something and answer me honestly"

"Sure anything for a beautiful lady such as yourself but if your going to ask me why i am so devilishly handsome then i can't answer you.."

"Stop kidding around!"

"I was just setting up the mood. So what is it that you want to ask?"

"Is it true that Richard has a girlfriend?"

Noel looked at her and he knows his answer will not make her happy but it's better that she knows anyway.

"If it's about that then it's true."

"Since when?! And why didn't he told me?" Rena was frustrated on the answer.

"Don't get all anxious about it cause Richard never made a move on you ok? so stop talking like he betrayed you or something."

"I have been persuading him for a long time and i tell him how i feel! But why did he suddenly had someone else!?"

"Look. You can't tell him who to choose cause no one has control over Richard, not even his family can predict him. Accept the fact that he has a girl now and he's happy with her."

"No! i have been by his side more than any other girl was and no one else is deserving than me so tell me who this girl is and i will show her who should have Richard!"

"I'm sorry but i can't tell you since even i don't trust you Rena."

"Fine! Then i'll find her myself and show her what happens to people who take away what's mine!"

Rena turned her back on Noel but before she could take a single step Noel grabbed her shoulder and when Rena looked at him she saw a fierce expression on Noel.

"I can't let you do that. My friend finally decided to take a step in life and i won't let anything intervene with it. I know about your little gang Rena and if something happens to Richards girl it won't be just me whom you should watch out for cause you don't know what Richard is capable of because even though he's silent and kind he is someone that you will regret turning into an enemy once you cross the line and i know that better than anyone else."

Rena felt a cold chill after hearing and seeing a side of Noel who was usually known as a joker but what he said doesn't seem like a joke even for a bit cause Rena knows only a little about Richard but still she won't give up just yet.

"You can't stop me Noel. I will do anything just to have Richard and no B***H will take him away from me!"

"Ok then but don't say i didn't warn you."

Rena walked away with a quick pace without looking back. Noel sat down and looked up, he knows that Rena may be up to something and it won't be pretty. All of a sudden Noel remembered an image of Richard holding bloody iron pipe while six people lay bloody and unconscious on the ground and he started talking to himself.

"I can't let you go back to that state Richard, i won't let it happen again for your sake."

Mae was introduced to Richards mom and there are some questions but only minor and simple ones the kind of things that a mother would ask a girl that captured the heart of her son. After the chatting the two of them went to town for their date. The cinema was packed but they still managed to find a good seat. Richard was holding a large popcorn bucket while Mae holds the the large coke bottle with two straws in it, Mae insisted that they share cause for her it was a dream to drink on the same beverage as her love and it made Richard a bit bashful but he went along with her. Richard will watch any kind of movie's as long as the story is good and from the plot that he heard about this love story he agreed with Mae to watch this movie. While they wait for the movie to start Mae held his hand and smiled to him. The movie started and Mae was focused on it but her hand still holds Richards. There was a scene in the movie about the female protagonist being shunned by her entire family and treated as an outsider, Richard looked at Mae and found her in tears, he would be wondering why she was tearing up if he doesn't know her position in her family so he pulled out a handkerchief and wiped the tears from her face and said "it's ok". it made Mae smile and they watch the movie together.

After the movie ended they went to a small snack bar inside the mall and Richard started the conversation with a simple question.

"Did you like the movie Mae?"

"It was good i love the ending."

"Have you been to the cinema before with your mom and dad?"

"Yes i have but that was a long time ago."

"Mae is it ok if you tell me something about you parents?"

"Sure why not. What do you want to know..?"

"Anything will do."

"Well my dad was a very funny guy cause i remember him catching a squirrel when i told him i want it for a pet so he spent the entire week trying to catch it but he failed so he bought me a hamster. In school when i was scared to dance in front of other people he would dance with me from the back and the other parents will go along with him he did so many things for me and i have so much happy memories of him."

"What about you mom.?"

Mae's eyes saddened but she still told him about her mom.

"Unlike my father i have very little memories of her but whenever she's home she would cook all my favorite food and read me bedtime stories, one memory of her that i can't forget was when i was really sick she stayed up for 2 days just to take care of me and when i woke up on the third day i found her sleeping beside me while her arms were tightly embracing me."

"She really loved you didn't she.?"

"Even if i have less memory of her i can say that all of them was very special."

Mae's eyes watered up and her nose tuned red so Richard held her hand and once again wiped her tears.

"They love you so you shouldn't cry cause it will make them sad. If you are thinking that you're alone then your wrong cause i'm here for you."

"Thank you.. thank you so much Richard."

Richard wanted to know how exactly her relatives treated her but he can't ask Mae something that will make her sad so he's determined to find the answer from someone else.

Noel was strolling around town thinking of what may happen now that Rena entered the picture. Rena has been their classmate for 2 years and the first time she met Richard was in an alley when he found Rena unconscious and brought her to a nearby clinic. Rena was beaten up by a group of gang girls then they left her unconscious after waking up in a clinic she found Richard on the bed side and informed Rena that he brought her to a clinic. After getting treated he accompanied Rena outside and to her home. One day Rena was blocked by the same group of girls that beaten her up but luckily Richard happens to pass by and saw her, he shielded Rena and hid her behind his back then asked the girls to leave her alone, the girls resisted at first but he told them"If you want to get to her then you will face me first!" Richards intimidation was proven to be too much for them specially when he has those cold dark eyes. The girls left Rena alone and since then Rena wanted to be with Richard but no matter how hard she try she cant get over the wall that Richard set up around him so finding out that he has a girlfriend was so painful for her. She now has a gang of her own and the reason why this gang was created is because Richard told Rena to be strong so she founded a gang to prove to him that she is a strong girl one that is rightful for him but still Richard never gave any special attention to her. This side story of Rena is no secret to Noel and he knows that Richard was not someone to tell if they are doing the right thing to get on his good side or not. Noel can read Richard like a book and he knows that Richard acts very differently with Mae, this change was something that he had hoped for his best friend cause even though he knows that Richard is an incredibly kind person he has no ability to pull out that side of Richard and make him realize that he's no cold stone on a lonely plain. He knows the kindness within Richard but he also knows the demented side of his friend so Noel does everything to keep that dark side from coming out. 

Six fifty pm. The couple went to a river side park and sat down to rest after having a tiresome but happy date. The sky was rose red with contrasting blue and the sun was setting behind the mountains while it's reflection made the water sparkle. Richard and Mae gaze upon the horizon then they looked at each other.

"I'm so happy. Thank you so much Richard."

Richard nodded but in his mind he was more thankful to Mae and as they held hands their lips met and their kiss was more passionate than the other kisses that they shared before and hearts raged wanting to do more but a moment while together kissing in front of a an almost perfect sunset was too beautiful to miss out and so they stayed until the sun finally vanished behind the mountain. The street lights lit up and the two lovers walked home hand in hand and Mae couldn't stop from looking at Richard for he may not say anything but his smile that she so desire to see had said it all.

A heart broken girl watches from a distance while tears roll down from her cheeks tears which are from the pain of seeing the person that she desire the one that she truly loves walking away from her with a smile that she has not seen before a smile that was not meant for her was being showed to a girl that stole his heart. There was no one there to wiped her tears as the cold wind and the empty street makes her feel that she is indeed alone.
