Impetus

Impetus

A Poem by Ben Taylor

A comet flickers across my windshield
And I am given opportunity for a wish.
Instead, I clench my jaw and tighten my grip
On this piteous heart of mine.
Something inside me breaks.
My eyelashes fill with regret
And my vision is blurred and rippled.
I consider pulling off to the side of the interchange,
But my self-preservation wilted when our
Mutual affections were crushed underfoot;
And so I force my wheels faster,
Vainly attempting to blink away these tears.

Intense.. I could feel the anxiety..the memories that flood through the mind and heart and then the race..the need to speed ahead and let go as the tears stream down the face... well done..xo
