I Am FullA Poem by Ben TaylorThe late-summer evening glows with retreating sunlight, Perfect and untainted by worries or misunderstandings. Simple, gentle warmth juxtaposed against the soft chill That announces the arrival of autumn Brushes my hair from my eyes. I gaze at the slivers of sunset still visible in the uppermost canopies. A poignant breeze drifts by, reminding me That the only way this copacetic evening could be improved upon Is if I were sharing it with you. Perhaps, someday. But for the moment I must learn to love in solitude, To fill myself with this beauty surrounding me Unaffected by memories of us. The night tastes so sweet, And I am content.
