Lonely

Lonely

A Poem by Ben Taylor

The empty lot is lonely,
And the flakes shiver as they splay themselves across my skin.
I thought I might have wanted an admission of affection,
But now I'd settle for hearing you say I disgust you.
Is that too onerous a request,
Or am I too trifling to be bothered with?
At least these f*****g streetlamps notice me,
Staring with their baleful fluorescence.
I can abide your dislike,
But I cannot bear being so worthless that I am not noticed.
I walk to my frost-bitten car,
And there is not a single soul
To wonder what I am wondering.
