Daydream

Daydream

A Poem by Ben Taylor

My thoughts wander,
Ignorant to the imperceptible conflation
Of the physical and the immaterial,
That which only I can create.

The world seems smoother here.
Less smothering.

These hallways and chandeliers are so much grander behind these lids.
I wish you'd join me in my escapades
As realities melt, reform, anneal, and shatter.

I turn myself and suddenly
We are no longer you and I,
But a someone else and an altered you.

I never imagined you'd be so stunning.
Or persuasive.

It's the last thought I had before the dreams closed in,
Or perhaps it was that final face I saw before they dissipated.
But delineating between the two is essential --
Determining a memory from an imagining.

It is not until minutes later that I realize:
I'm confused,
Remembering things that never happened
And wanting you because of them.
