How Far

How Far

A Poem by Ben Taylor

You are weightless,
a cotton-puff seed ascending late-summer sunbeams,
dancing in the evening.
I am captivated by your movements,
the way you flit and float as the afternoon breathes,
as staccato gusts usher you towards me.
You drift by, and I reach,
enthralled by the possibility of finding you
between my fingers, against my skin.
When I open my hand, however, you are not there
as I had hoped;
instead I see you twirling amidst a distant breeze,
your semi-transparence a fiery back-lit brilliance.
But you aren't so far away,
I decide as I stride towards you.
I think you're worth the walk.

The wonderful thing about poetry is that any subject is worthy to be written about...large or small. This is an interesting write, about a seemingly ordinary little thing. Nicely penned! ~ Robert.
