To Gray From Green

To Gray From Green

A Poem by Ben Taylor
"

A metaphor, a life depicted as a leaf.

"
The withered leaf in circles spins,
A life unsure where to begin,
Allowing worldly breeze to lead
His branch-less dance where it may please.
For lack of anchor, lack of hope,
Inanely he shall decompose,
Content to shrivel in the breeze,
A futile gift to Winter's greed.
So many leaves will fall from branch
To revel in that seas'nal dance,
Aband'ning that which gives them life
To mar themselves with Winter's knife.
The ice surrounds and turns to dust,
Transforming lives to Autumn's rust;
Their moment of enjoyment lost,
And only I can see the cost.

Written for English class, it is supposed to be in iambic tetrameter. Is it? I have not attempted this before. Rhyme scheme is AABB.

As always, Ben, exquisitely chosen words to portray beautifully the course of a life in metaphor. Can't tell you if it is tetrameter or not. Joel most likely can, he is very good with that sort of thing. :) Miss seeing you around. Glad to see you are continuing to write! :) Hugs. You capture the physical aspects of the leaf releasing and falling and its progress with such feeling, gives written life to it. :) I do believe this is one of my favorites of yours now. :)

A beautiful poem. I like the description and story in the poem. Here in Michigan. The color change of the trees are in full effect. It is sad to see the tree fade away till next year. Thank you for a excellent poem.
