To Gray From GreenA Poem by Ben TaylorA metaphor, a life depicted as a leaf. The withered leaf in circles spins, A life unsure where to begin, Allowing worldly breeze to lead His branch-less dance where it may please. For lack of anchor, lack of hope, Inanely he shall decompose, Content to shrivel in the breeze, A futile gift to Winter's greed. So many leaves will fall from branch To revel in that seas'nal dance, Aband'ning that which gives them life To mar themselves with Winter's knife. The ice surrounds and turns to dust, Transforming lives to Autumn's rust; Their moment of enjoyment lost, And only I can see the cost.
