Holding On, Albeit LooselyA Poem by Ben TaylorA ragged grain of sand placidly grips the side of a beer can. The can's exterior screams "Busch" in a battered blue font, disrupting the monotony of the cloudy beach. I watch as the tides throw themselves towards the can, irascibly seeking to dislodge the oblivious fleck of rock; but then I glance away. I wonder how long before I am devoured by similar waves? I glance back, and I realize I already am, the beer can swallowed whole and the grain of sand drowning in the unavoidable sea. © 2012 Ben TaylorReviews
