Taking Candy From A Baby

Taking Candy From A Baby

A Poem by Ben Taylor

Red candy lips, framed by
Half lidded eyes of
Lascivious flirtation:
She dangles the carrot
Between thigh and navel, and he,
Bound by invisible bonds,
Is dragged along innocently.

The scent of gasoline is
Masked by his consuming hunger.

His myopic fixation affixes
The blinders of lust and obsession
Aside each of his eyes--
All alternative opinions
Are discarded as worthless.
She bares her teeth
In a succulent rictus of victory,
Urging him ever forwards.

The prize is simply too enticing
To ignore.

Suddenly tiring of the preoccupation,
She stops--
He grins with relief
As he approaches her.
As he reaches for the carrot he
Has pursued so earnestly,
His hands, smoldering with the
Flames of desire,
Ignite the fuel and the conflagration
Begins to consume him.

She doubles over with laughter
As the blisters spread from fingernail
To shoulder.

"Careful,"
She whispers,
As she walks away,
Somehow still seductive
As the flames sear their way
Across his torso.

I really enjoyed reading this (:
I'm not entirely sure how to explain what I think the poem means... It's sort of like, she seduces him, offering him her "carrot", then walks away without giving him said "carrot"... Is the carrot what I think the carrot is?
My favourite part is
"His myopic fixation affixes
The blinders of lust and obsession
Aside each of his eyes"
There's quite a lot of sibilance as well, which makes the poem sound quite sensual and matches the subject, I think.
