A Condition

A Condition

A Story by Ben Taylor

Everything seems tilted.
Somehow, the removal of this particular particle of reality has thrown most everything off balance.  Facts that had relied upon this truth as a foundation are now floundering clumsily, reaching for something stable.
But nothing stable exists.
All escape mechanisms that would have once proved a comfort--books, company, solitude--are polluted by the persistent nagging of this abstract alteration of that considered to be affirmatively affixed. When the object in question is present in a room, that which is still considered to be absolute is juxtaposed against that which is doubted, and the disparity in solidity causes a sense of unbalance, of poorly distributed weight.
The revelation creates the feeling of falling backwards: the next however-long of life must now be spent retracing previous steps, rebuilding what was once accepted as fact.
I do not expect you to be burdened with the reasons behind my utter disorientation--they would not affect you in the same way anyways. I will uncross my eyes with an abundance of effort, attempting to restore my world to its previous state of equilibrious equanimity.

This my dear Ben is most excellent. Leaves the mind to wander about the source of the condition. The words flow beautifully. Exquisitely chosen words float the reader along. The subtle alliteration is beautiful. I demand that when you become famous and published that you send me a copy of every book you write! :) Hugs.
