My Unruly Words

My Unruly Words

A Poem by Ben Taylor

My smile frays at the edges
As the "I love you"s blister the skin
Where tongue and throat conjoin.
They are silent armies, cutting and stabbing,
Aching to be free,
But I bite them back--
Methodically chewing their razor-ed swords
And tempered shields.
They have laid siege to my lungs;
Eventually I shall discover a dearth
Of platonic banalities,
And my words will storm from larynx to lips.

Words can set us free or close doors to someone dream. I like the thoughts in this poem. The ending made the poem complete. Some words are hard to be released. A outstanding poem. Thank you.
