Monday MorningA Poem by danalynOne of my favorite mondays this yearSunflowers, bright against lilac Smiles hidden under protective masks Joy spreading on an eve of day of love Such joy... Depleting like petals crumbling Energy seeped out of our stems, pouring Like water, like blood Over notebooks and assignments that never end Yet friends make up for it Wide eyes and wider smiles Secrets and text messages shared Under food crumbs and sweets Walking past the empty hallways And beeping elevators Realizing it is only, you And the pressuring calmness of the real world keeping you company Yet despite The never ending lectures of life Or questions about love and boys Or persistent wants to stay awake It is only Monday And I would rather feel such Tiredness Than to feel medically numb to the world It reminds me of pain Of life Of suffering Of breathing Breathing in sunflowers Bright against lilac Bright smiles and laughs of friends On Monday morning © 2023 danalyn |
