Learned to Love Too Much

Learned to Love Too Much

A Poem by DoormanDan
"

Inspired by life burnout and my tendency to give too much of myself to something

"
Do I even dare go back out there,
Where the blizzards blaze at ten below?
Their bites have left my soul bare,
So why do I still chase thundersnow?

My heart and mind both feel like they're going numb,
And say that going out again would be dumb,

But still, I step outside
Into those swells of ice,
Because they hold beauty I've learned to love too much.
Until the sundogs shine
Upon these tides of white,
I'll just brave the cold that I've learned to love too much:

That we've learned to love too much.

Oh, why did I dare come back out here:
Where all life sleeps in haps of hoarfrost?
The skies are now calm and clear,
Yet all warmth and wonder remains lost.

But with time, the verglas will finally thaw,
And again, I'll get to hear the robin's song,

And so, I step inside,
Stand in the firelight,
Draped in its comfort that I've learned to love so much.
And as the sun dogs shine,
I know that I'll be fine,
For I'm swathed in their glow I've learned to love so much:

We should learn to love so much.

Considering getting rid of the seco d half of the poem after the "That we've learned to love too much" section, but not sure yet.

An interesting write about "loving too much"...I guess too much of anything can be detrimental to our health..

But I like the way you inject lightness into this poem and compassion, as yeah....we all love too much at times....one thing or another...!

These were my favourite lines:

And as the sun dogs shine,
I know that I'll be fine,
For I'm swathed in their glow I've learned to love so much:

Great metaphor here. Takes courage to step out that door when you have been badly bitten. There’s alot of cold here. Some lovely imagery and a flicker of firelight too. Welcome back. Pleased you returned. I enjoyed your writing Doorman Dan.
