I Love You

Fatma

Fatma was a beautiful girl from a high class family. She lived in a lovely flat with her kind parents. She was the only child for them. They loved her more than anything in their life. They taught her to be responsible and do her effort to reach her goals. Although she was their only joy but they did not pampered her. Her father was the owner of a toy factory. Her mother was a housewife.  They considered Fatma be a gift from God. She was their smile and future hope. She was a perfect obedient daughter for them. They watched her and days passing by and in secret thoughts hoping to see her as a beautiful bride for a good gentle man. They hoped to see many grand children making noise in every corner of their house . Her friends envied her for her beauty. She was a girl of a perfect character and an amazing wisdom. She hoped to be a famous person in the world of business like her father and a good wife like her mother. Her friends thought that she would be the first one to marry in the future and she thought that she would be married soon.It was true that many men hoped to marry her. However her family always said that they would not agree to be married until she continued her education in university.  Years passed on and Fatma finished her higher education and was waiting for her man to come to be the love of her life. She worked with her father in his factory. He was amazed with her business prospect. She was full of energy and had an awesome creativity.

Many men proposed but no one attracted her. She wanted a man like her father. Whenever a man proposed for her she always said he wasn’t the one. Her parents were puzzled with her attitude and wondered when she would agree to be a beautiful bride for someone. Until the day she met someone and in a moment she said he was the one. He was 36. He was older than her with 14 years but she thought he was the one. She met him in a bookshop where he was buying some books. He advised her to buy a book for a famous writer. They became friends but the friendship changed to a love story. She loved his kindness and care. He was a person who reminded her of her father. He loved her character and beauty. Fatma meant everything to him, since then.  He dreamed to be his bride but he was afraid of her refusal. He thought many times until she confessed for him about her love. He could not hide anymore and confessed that he hoped to say ‘I love you’ many times before. He was afraid to lose her and wanted her to be in his life. He was afraid to meet her father but she told him she would persuade her parents to agree if they refused. She was confident that her father would agree on this marriage.  She waited for the day to be his wife. He was a man that forgot to marry to be a rich person and when he achieved his dream he realized that his age was 36. He was not sad but never thought to marry a young lady aged 22.  He was not so old but years of work made him look older. He was a successful writer. He travelled a lot to write stories from all over the world and then he decided to have his own publishing company. She inspired him to write and publish more stories about love. He found her to lighten his life and to follow her glory. She always did courage him for writing more stories. She inspired him and thoughts come to his mind. He wrote many stories about love. He taught men how to love and care about someone. He taught that it was never too late to fall in love.  She was nearby him like his shadow.

He met her father. He was happy to meet his kind father in law. They liked each other. They discussed everything about his daughter. They agreed to get married within two months. They got married in a party full happiness. She was like an angle in her long white dress. Her beauty was amazing that people felt that she was like a princess. The happiness in their eyes couldn’t be described. It was an amazing party that every body cheered, laughed and tears of happiness fell down of their eyes. It was like a magical party from Arabian nights. All mothers hoped to see their daughters like this beautiful bride. They sometimes thought it was a dream. They lived happily. Life was going like a fairytale. She was a perfect wife that respected her husband. He showered her with love, care, flowers and presents. He did not know what to do for her to make her happy. He wanted to get the world and put it under her feet. He always thought that she deserved more and more. He was a more successful writer than before. They travelled to many places. He wanted to go everywhere with her. The only thing that worried her was having a baby from her true love. She hoped to have a baby boy to look like her beloved. She prayed God to give her a boy. Two years passed but no boy came. Fatma started to worry more. She was not happy like before. She was always thinking about babies. Her husband was worried about her health more than kids. She was thinking all the time and talking about kids. She felt fatigue all the time. Sometimes she felt fever or chills. She lost her appetite and so she lost much weight and suffered from night sweats. Her parents also were worried. Fatma was pale all the time.

Finally, they decided to go for a doctor to know the reason for this delay. They went to a doctor who asked them for many tests to be done.

They did many tests but their dream was shattered.  Fatma and her husband knew that she was dying. The doctor said she suffered from a disease in which abnormal cells divided without control and were able to invade other tissues. They couldn’t understand what this disease was until they knew that it was a kind of cancer. She suffered from Carcinoma -a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs.

She had it from  a long time and now it appeared to destroy their happiness, to take Fatma to another life. It was a cancer that ate her body and dreams. The doctors said she wasn’t going to live for a long  period of time. She did not want to suffer. She was afraid of pain. She prayed her God to make her strong till her death. She was afraid to leave her husband and parents. She was sad to see the sadness in their eyes. She felt no pain and hoped not to feel with any till her death. She decided to laugh and be as before. She did not want her parents or husband to suffer her loss. They were always crying to see their joy  pale and weak. She hoped to die and not to suffer. She hoped to see their smile before her death. She decided to write two letters for her dear husband and for her caring parents and to leave these letters for them to read after her death.

Her husband decided to be a nurse for her.  He could not write any more. He took a long holiday from writing and work. He decided to look after her health, to cook for her, to walk together in green areas hoping to see her facing this monster. He had a hope. It was a hope to live with her, he hoped for a miracle to happen.  He did not want anything in life except  his love. He only wanted her to be by his side. He did his best until the day he came back from a flower shop and with a big bunch of flowers entered her room waiting to see her smile on her beautiful face. She was sleeping like an angle. He approached and kissed her forehead. He found her body cold as ice. He shivered from this cold feeling. He was puzzled. He tried to wake her up. He rubbed her hands. He shook her shoulder. He shouted and cried. Tears were oozing  on his cheeks. He hugged her and held her between his arms.  Unfortunately, it was her last sleep.  She passed in peace to another world. She was the candle that lightened his path. She passed away leaving him in a world of darkness. She left him but she took her inspiration with her. She took all the words that he could use to write his stories. He couldn’t write any more. After the funeral he found two envelopes written on them for my dear husband and another one for my dear parents.

Dear husband,

By the time  you are reading this letter I will be in another world. I will miss you my love. Don’t be sad as I hadn’t suffer much. I was a lucky person to find my true love and live with him. Many people are born and die without meeting their love. You were a perfect man. You gave me happiness and care. You were a friend, husband and my whole world. I am sure that we will meet again in another world. My dear forgive me for anything I did and bothered you without my intension. I loved you and will always do.

                                      Your faithful love,

                     Fatma

Her husband gave the other letter to her parents and they read it together.

Dear parents,

You should be happy that I did not suffer. I will be in heaven waiting for you as I was an obedient child. Mum, pray for me and don’t ever be sad. My lovely parents I died but I left my husband to be your child. Whenever, you see him you will remember me. He was a perfect husband and I am sure that he will always be your obedient child.

           Your obedient daughter,

                              Fatma

Fatma died and took her inspiration for the successful writer. However, her letters left for him some ideas and thoughts. He only had few words to write one last story. It was the story that he decided to end his career as a writer with. It was his own story.  He decided to call it ‘Fatma’ to thank his dear wife for all the happiness that she gave him. It was his last story to tell everyone one about. He wanted to send a message to the whole world that he loved her from all his heart. He ended his story with simple words, ‘I will always love you, Fatma, no one can take your place in my heart’.
