Falling Stars

Falling Stars

A Poem by Not here

One more time for the rewind,
running away, looking behind.
Watch out for the monster enemy,
lurking nearer to you than you see.
Can't stop it now; can't turn back to
the place you came from. No more you.
It's loneliness in the ungodly flesh.
It's a hometown city turned to mess.
It's a world that's broken, tattered, torn
full of broken people, shattered, worn.
Lost all hope, no longer bright,
but now we realize in the dark of the night...

Maybe all we have is lost tonight...
Maybe all we had left was one fight...
Maybe all we are is falling stars...
Maybe falling stars is who we are...

It was a great day and a great year,
or so we told ourselves over a couple of beers.
The old town pub was becoming new
every time we walked in the door it blew.
We were on fire with desire,
walking in with our nice attire.
Turns out we were just burnt-out tires,
living life hanging by the wires.
Wired to not feel and taught to misbehave,
we lost all modesty and we lost so many days
that could have been used better
and that could have been a glow.
I guess that finally now
maybe in the end we know...

Maybe all we have is lost tonight...
Maybe all we had left was one fight...
Maybe all we are is falling stars...
Maybe falling stars is who we are...

Only problem with that is, we're thinking that we were fine.
Were we ever really okay? Was life ever really mine?
Sure, we're broken people now, but what were we once before?
Were we wholly together and fine, or closed behind a door?
Behind that door was a room padded, padded white all around.
We are manic people living in a manic world of sound.
Zooms here, zips there;
nobody even really cares.
We're just living out our days
holding on to the thick haze.
Maybe it'll save our life; maybe it'll hold us still.
Or at the end of time, maybe nothing will
because...

Maybe all we have is lost tonight...
Maybe all we had left was one fight...
Maybe all we are is falling stars...
Maybe falling stars is who we are...

Dante; The wording is spectacular: I love the continuing chorus....you are progressing with every poem you write. Enjoyed the perfected flow of the first stanza and chorus, and then the change into stanza 3 even more. Great move, vivid, could see the bar, the images clearly and forced me think about life, it is fleeting, but we must make the best of it. Falling Stars, great title, and I suppose, that's exactly what we all are. The question is what do we make of it. No? I love this poem...Great work. Dale

Its a nice, thought provoking write. Leaves us thinkin...are we only falling stars? or something more? or did we just fool ourselves? well done.
