The Dark and The Pearl

The night falls sooner everyday

and we're left alone in the dark.

I don't always know what to say

when she sits by me in the park.

But around us sings the crickets and birds,

and I don't know why they're still awake.

And even though I have no words,

I believe every promise we make.

'Cause the night can't hide my pearl.

And I've got my girl.

If it feels like we're falling apart,

I'll just hold on more tightly and give her my heart.

The world is pressing into me

and bringing us all this pain.

But someday I'll get down on one knee

and then finally explain.

It's taken a while to get to this moment,

and I don't want to waste it at all.

So capture the feelings and let's fully own it

as we head into the nightfall.

Crickets and birds swirling around the dusky park...what a tremendous stroke of imagery setting up the write! The love wrapped up and tied with a bow, so obvious to the one who receives that love? The fact that the love is reciprocated ensures that you will never lose that pearl, it will never again be hidden by night. Great piece of writing, david.
