Through Time and Place

Through Time and Place

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

War, peace, etc.

"

Through Time and Place

The sun rises in pink and orange, and sets the same

in every city, island or town.

Yet each rising or setting

is always singular and new

for each day and each place

We see our world

through time and place,

and often live

as if omniscient,

as if all culture

and history

were universal.

I rise each day

with troubles looming —

an extended forecast of doom,

as if the world’s reservoirs of kindness

are near to drying,

the world’s patience undone.

Yet the sun rises and sets

with serene beauty

on uncounted days,

in places near and far,

like ours, and so different.

The capacity to create hate,

to forge misunderstanding,

has followed us

from Babylon’s Babel

to countless troubles,

intifadas, insurgencies,

retaliations and so-called wars.

The capacity to create love,

to speak, listen and hear

beyond our own place and time,

and make true contact,

is not so simply advanced,

but must be practiced

with each cycle of the sun.

Maybe this one will get you the five stars. I am getting tired now. I think it's because I keep repeatng myself. There, one more point... hope that raises you up a bit more

Ugg... that twit again... Clearly can't write as well as you and is jealous. He is one of the haters you are writing about... and I am one of the lovers you are talking about. So here, there is another point to bring up your score because of an uninspired, jealous hater...

I liked the pace! I see Carlos said something nice. You are right with the words, and put them so clearly, it can't be misunderstood. However, it's almost 2am right now, can' t sleep so I catching up on reading... I liked the ending because it says we all must try even though it is harder to spread harmony then break out war. Nice job!!!!
