The Power Of Being Left Behind

The Power Of Being Left Behind

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

In line four yes I did intend to say death of night instead on dead of night for the purpose of the poem.

"

Burning trash barrels

Line the streets

To guide those left behind

In the death of night.

Cold asphalts serves

Exposed flesh well

As unintentional martyrs

Cross the black sea.

Throwing pebbles at

Scary sounds in the dark

Is a blatant double standard.

Chaos becomes God

When everyone worships

Self preservation.

Strength in numbers

Builds up the spiritual guidance

That will lead you

The newest promise land

And show the cowards

That left you behind

That you are stronger than they.

It's a decaying world, brilliantly depicted here and I think that DEATH of night is an apt description of decay. "The newest promised land" is an interesting thought that conjures up visions of the Israelites...is there such a place? I believe there is and that we will see it when we die. We can only have faith and pray that a better place exists...remembering that poverty is a huge problem world-wide and that God is not to blame...while governments allow people to starve there is no answer.
A thought provoking piece of poetry Dale...thank you :)
Cheers...

We are quickly becoming an isolationist society. Everything that we do seems to take us one step closer to achieving that sterile life where we never have to leave our homes. I was just talking with someone the other day about how different life is now from when my parents were young...I don't even really know my neighbors, not even their names, and when I was growing up, we would have cookouts with our entire block. Still, we can make our own worlds...choose to be who and what we want to be regardless of what society says. This piece was one that gave me a little hope. Thank you, and well done.

strength in numbers is what we had in the 60's...we united...now it is all about self-preservation and all that leads to is chaos...as our God as our guide...

we need to get together! like the youngbloods sang..."c'mon people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together try to love one another right now"

strong theme in this really good piece.

um yeah, really i think that common courtesy is getting last rites....i see so little of it anymore.
"When everyone worships self preservation".....unfortunately we live in a society that does just that for the most part. Such rich dark images throughout your poem...intense! Lydi**
