Curing Myself

Curing Myself

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

A stroll through the land

Of missed opportunities

Is scarier than

Walking through the shadows

In the valley of death.

Rays of light shining

Through a cloudy day

Keep the darkest recesses

Of my mind enlightened

About the webs of deceit

That remain;

Now tattered reminders

Of the those who tried to

Poison my mind

With self-righteous negativity.

Good thing I keep

High doses of self esteem

On hand as the antidote

To the anti optimist.

This is real truth my friend. Regret leave us wishing for better endings and being more kind. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Thank you again sir.
I am smiling here Dale. Good work and great medicine. Why spend years getting a medical degree when you have this skill? Opportunities are double edged circumstances... We must be prepared for them or we will get cut trying to pick them up or by those who pick them up around us.
I like your use of "anti optimist". :) Funny and truth.

you are welcome
everyone needs high doses of self esteem. It counters regret, guilt, all those misssed oppertunities.

Excellent points. Thank you.
A really interesting read, the anti-optimism antidote, love it. One thing, the line "Walk through the shadows" could stand an added A or possibly be switched to walking, but, as always poetic license prevails.

Thank you very much… dang auto correct keeps messing with my work.

Yes, have to be careful with that auto correct.
the anti optimist...needs some self esteem to offset the negativity...

and yes, i like the idea that it is worse to have missed opportunities than die...

perhaps it is the idea that when we do die, we want to have no regrets, or the feelings of "if only i had done this or done that.

we don't want to die with a poisoned mind.

You can have it on hand, it is called believing in yourself.
We all must go our own way and it does not always sit well with others who "know better." But it is better to have dreamed and tried and to have been a bench warmer in this life. Negativity is often the shield of the fearful.
